Spring into September!

Jo Dixey from New Zealand always brings a breath of fresh air to stitching and you can take advantage of her expertise in two classes. All levels are welcome.

Plus you can learn reticella with Denise Bell (beginners and extension students).

Pat Stevenson will teach you all sorts of techniques for bag construction.

Don’t forget that Intermediate Surface Stitchery begins on August 31.

JD-44 Playing with stitch

This workshop is designed to extend your creative brain.

Many traditional stitches can be worked in a huge variety of ways to create different effects. During this workshop you will play with a variety of stitches to create a sampler. There is no finished project with this workshop just an opportunity to play with stitches with no pressure and for no purpose but to have fun: many of the best designs come to us when we are just having fun. On the second day you can continue with your sampler or start a piece of work.

JD-45 Silk shading (long and short stitch)

During this workshop you will learn how to shade using long and short stitch.

Using one strand of stranded cotton you’ll learn to how blend the shades together. You will learn to create a smooth finish to your stitching as well as using stitch direction to help create a realistic image. With a two-day class you are able to bring your own design, or Jo will have a couple of designs you can use if you wish.

DB-48 Reticella

Tutor: Denise Bell
Skill level: Beginners, plus extension from previous reticella class
Tuesdays: August 20, September 3 and September 17 2019

Reticella is an Italian embroidered needlelace technique. This is a multi-level class catering both for beginners and for students who have some experience in the technique. During these three days you will learn how to prepare the foundation grid and practise a range of reticella filling stitches for your own needlecase. Or you can use the technique for more advanced motifs.

PS-49 Build a bag

Tutor: Pat Stevenson
Skill level: Average sewing machine skills
Dates: Sundays September 15 and 22.
Times:  10.00am – 3.00pm

This wonderful class teaches many skills for bag construction and whether you have made many bags or if this is your first one you will earn something new. The class includes many techniques that transfer to other shapes. The bag is lined and has internal pocket, one with a zips. It also has a zip opening and is stiffened to support itself. The fabric handles can be made long and short.

LH Intermediate Surface Stitchery

Tutor: Lindsay Hussey
A great opportunity to increase your skills and knowledge in the subject.

Skill level: A good grasp of basic stitches
Saturdays August 31, September 7, 21, 28, October 19 and 26. Assessment day: Saturday November 23.
Times: 10.30am – 2.30pm
Cost: $275.00

This six-session course is designed to further your knowledge of surface stitches and is a great foundation for other intermediate courses. By the time you finish you’ll have an excellent understanding of ways to use and apply stitches, and you’ll be far more confident with future projects. Challenge yourself!
