October Classes

October sees a day of fun and experimentation for hand stitchers of all levels with Sue Fox, playing with embroidered mandalas.

Victoria Elantseva will help you to create the most gorgeous Christmas decoration ever with pearls, using traditional Russian techniques.

Stitchers at every level of experience are welcome.

We’ve included a two-day November class because it starts so early in the month (Sunday November 3). Sheryl Turton will teach beginners a variety of stitches, give you basic information and tips, plus show you how to have fun while you stitch.

Please send in your application by September 15.

A fun and easy one-day class, using basic stitches and lots of colour and texture on a hand-coloured fabric background.

There are several different mandala patterns to choose from, and each one can be adapted to suit the individual stitcher: you make it as simple or as detailed as you like.

The $5.00 materials fee covers hand-coloured fabric in a range of colours, for the background, and use of threads from Sue’s ‘different and unusual’ stash, many being hand-dyed one-offs.

Pearlwork is a form of beading often used in northern Russia. In this two-day Christmas decoration class students will reconstruct an original 19th century kosnik, a hairdressing accessory. The project design is simpler than the original, but all the traditional techniques are included.

The first day includes stitching on foil and managing the one-thread padding. The second day covers pearling, reproducing the ornaments, and cord-finishing skills. Students may choose to work the pattern on white, yellow or red brocades with artificial glass beads or freshwater pearls. NB. The Christmas decoration is 1/3 smaller than the sample and may have other types and shapes of beads.
