SK-41 Wrapped and Stitched
Skill level: All levels welcome
In this two-day workshop, the first morning is spent by participants creating a base piece of silk paper which will then be set aside to dry. We will manipulate the silk base into a mini landscape by creating hills and valleys in which to nestle our wrapped cords, beads and cocoons. Think coral reefs, jungles and tropical gardens. During the afternoon we will create a variety of wrapped cords, beads and cocoons. Time to pull out those treasured threads, variegated cottons, sari waste, wools and silk threads, and fabrics of silk, organza and those small pieces of ‘glitter’ fabric you have been saving. A wide range of threads, wools and fabrics can be used.
The second day we will be stitching into the silk base and arranging the previous day’s wrapped objects into our landscape. Threads too thick or too delicate to pass through the eye of a needle will be couched in place and further embellished with embroidery. As well as tried and true embroidery techniques, several different advanced embroidery stitches will be demonstrated.
