Workshop Description
Sweet or Swete bag is a small bag or purse produced during the Elizabethan period and often given as gifts or used as a container for gifts, such as gold coins or fragrant substances. Sweet bags are some of the best known examples of Elizabethan embroidery which have survived to the present day this being due to the large number produced and the beauty of the items.

Designs were inspired by pattern books and reflect their love of nature, plants, flowers, birds and insects.

This project will explore the use of Elizabethan design and stitches to reproduce an Elizabethan Sweet bag. The piece can be framed as a panel or made up into a bag.
Design is repeated on the back of the bag.
