Congratulations to Award-winning Milliner, Georgia Skelton!
EGV member, Georgia Skelton (Georgia Skelton Millinery), has won not only the 2021 Millinery Association of Australia Design Award with her piece Fantasy Flight (pictured), but her entry was also selected by their Patron, Stephen Jones Millinery, as his Patron’s Pick.
Addressing the theme of the competition - 1920s Past, Present, and Future - the hat is an updated version of an aviator cap from that period and is constructed using a recycled jumper and sunglasses to create a modern piece. The judges said “This piece is very clever! It is such an innovative use of materials with a strong sustainability approach. The design has transformed a traditional 20’s functional hat design into a modern-day fashion piece.”
Patron of the MAA, Stephen Jones (Stephen Jones Millinery) picked Georgia’s design because it is a “very interesting knit and he would love to see someone at the races wearing this piece as it would get everyone’s attention.” He thought it was original, fun and well made.
Well done Georgia!
