CLASS - MG3008 Creative Freestyle Canvas Work
MG 3008 Creative Freestyle Canvas Work
Inspired by the cheerful embroideries of UK. textile artist Sue Dove, we will transform a simple drawing into a vibrant colourful and creative canvas-work piece.
We will use simple stitches, and a riot of coloured stranded cottons. You might even add a few beads.
This piece can be used as a box top, or a small, framed picture. Your design will be inspired by a simple coloured picture, such as a greeting card.
Some suitable pictures wil be available for you to use, or you can draw one yourself.
Lesson 1 - We will discuss and outline the technique, and Iwill show various samples of my work, and I will demonstrate various stitching techniques that will be used. Students will select a picture and draw the outline onto the canvas. Suitable colours for each design will be discussed with students.
The canvas will be mounted onto a frame using drawing pins. They will outline the design with black stranded cotton and proceed with filling in areas with stranded cotton stitchery.
Lesson 2 - Students wil continue with their stitching. I will advise any colour choices if required and discuss options for mounting work as a picture or box top.
