CLASS - LH8 Bayeux Tapestry Sampler
LH8 - Bayeux Tapestry Sampler
The Bayeux Tapestry is considered the oldest surviving example of crewel (wool) embroidery.
In this class we'll take one of the animals of the border (you can choose between four different animals/birds) and create a sample of the Tapestry using crewel wool and the techniques and stitches used for the original.
The original embroiderers were more concerned with the story being told and so the stitches used are quick and easy to work (no fine stitching here). This makes the Sampler a good opportunity to try out embroidery with wool. As Bayeux Stitch is not used often these days experienced crewel embroiderers will also learn something new.
