CB40 - Blackwork Trilogy (Class underway)
Blackwork Trilogy
This project consists of 3 individual elements.
- Limonera Pear (2019) - As the Limonera Pear ripens its hues reflect a range of autumnal tones, from a rosy blush across crisp green to the yellows of the fully ripe fruit.
- Honeycrisp Apple (2020) - Quite the 'princess' of apple varieties, being bred for its taste: crisp, with a balanced sweetness and acidity. The much enjoyed Honeycrisp Apple must be handled in just the right way to be at its best.
- Celeste Fig (2021) - The smooth skinned fruit with its pinky-red flesh has a rich, honey, sweet flavour with a rippled appearance. It has smooth skin that shades from light brown to violet and is often called the 'Sugar Fig'.
In each, variegated thread is used to stitch different Blackwork patterns, each creating texture and interest. Worked on 32 count linen lined with silk double georgette, bead and metal thread embellishments are then added for a touch of bling. Buttonhole Stitch is whipped to hand construct seams, a felt stem is added with a double-sided metal thread the finishing touch. For the Fig, shaded Blackwork is introduced to work the cut half on 36 count linen.
The class content is modularised to be flexible and covers all the techniques required for each of the projects. Students focus on one project in class but can opt in to purchase the other kits and engage with as much of the tuition as they wish.
