DL34 Schwalm - Hidden Delights
DL34 - Schwalm - Hidden Delights
Hidden Delights features many traditional techniques used in Schwalm embroidery with a central heart hiding a bird, settled amidst flowers, stems and leaves. This linen table centre is finished with a hemmed Schwalm Peahole edge.
Schwalm whitework embroidery is a regional embroidery originating in the Hesse area along the Schwalm River in Germany. It was embroidered on pillowcases, napery, sheets, aprons, cuffs, and clothes and incorporates surface stitches, pulled thread work, drawn thread work and needle weaving.
Design elements were based on elements including the sun, hearts, pine cones, flowers, tendrils, leaves, birds, tulips and leaves.
