Silk Shading - A Technique Class

The exquisite rendering of beautiful images in threads is the hallmark of the Silk Shading technique. Practiced by hand embroiderers for centuries, we will take a look at some historical references and what is being stitched today as this varied technique has so much to offer.

In this class we will cover:

  • an introduction to Silk ShadingCBimage1
  • image selection
  • interpreting shading
  • colour selection
  • determining your stitch plan including direction references and order of work
  • a detailed look at Long and Short Stitch
  • stitching the design

This is a technique class where each student will interpret the original image into their own unique work of art embroidery.
