Silk Shading - A Technique Class
The exquisite rendering of beautiful images in threads is the hallmark of the Silk Shading technique. Practiced by hand embroiderers for centuries, we will take a look at some historical references and what is being stitched today as this varied technique has so much to offer.
In this class we will cover:
- an introduction to Silk Shading
- image selection
- interpreting shading
- colour selection
- determining your stitch plan including direction references and order of work
- a detailed look at Long and Short Stitch
- stitching the design
This is a technique class where each student will interpret the original image into their own unique work of art embroidery.

Skill level: Some experience with surface embroidery preferred.
