The French Peare
‘The Tradescants’ Orchard’ is a seventeenth-century volume of sixty-six watercolours depicting fruit varieties that John Tradescant and his son might have grown in their market garden at Lambeth. The French Peare makes its delightful appearance as part of this tome and it is this botanical drawing that is the inspiration for this project.
This project which is worked on sky blue silk dupion uses luxurious Gumnut 'Stars' threads and a range of techniques to create a dimensional embroidery. Along with the focus on raised embroidery techniques including -
- Felt padding
- Soft cotton padding
- Detached elements using wires
- Wrapped wires
the stitching will focus on silk shading techniques.
