SF-4 ‘Elegant Art Deco’ – Stained-Glass Window in Canvas work

Skill level: All levels welcome
Materials fee: $10.00 (payable to tutor)
Member: $98.00
Non-member: $134.00

We all love the timeless beauty and elegance of the Art Deco period, and the rich colours and patterns of the stainedglass windows that are so reminiscent of that era.
I have used original window designs from that period as my inspiration for this project, using many different stitches and threads to represent the different types, colours and textures of stained-glass. The finished size is 30cm square, and there are two other designs to choose from.
Threads are very much a personal choice; I have used mainly threads with a sheen, to enhance the idea of “glass”, but traditional wool is quite acceptable.
It is ideal for beginners, or those who would like to add more than just the basic canvas-work stitches to their repertoire. My sample has been framed, but your finished piece could also be incorporated into a cushion.

Dates: Wednesday 7 and Saturday 12
Times: 10.00am – 3.30pm
Tutor: Sue Fox

As part of my ‘Golden Age” project I have been
exploring the works of William Heath Robinson
(1872 – 1944). He was most famous probably for his works involving weird and wonderful gadgets and machines, I have used some of those, but I have also explored his book illustrations. I have used some further developments in needle lace, weaving and many stitch combinations, and I have come up with a few that I think are very suitable for my style of embroidery. The class will have a choice of items to
stitch, some of which are pre-printed panels.
