AM-AM48 Canvas Work – Beautiful Windmills

Skill level: All levels welcome
Kit cost: $50.00 (payable to tutor)

Member: $98.00
Non-member: $134.00

The “Beautiful Windmills” sewing set is created using modern canvaswork embroidery stitches. This style of stitching is characterised by “twisty” stitches that spin wheels of colour across the fabric. The completed set includes a fabric covered sewing box, a pincushion, a needlecase and a scissor keep. My version is worked in stranded silks and cottons on 24-count Congress Cloth and the finished box measures approximately 23cm x 17.5cm x 7.5cm. The design will work just as well if you choose to work it all in stranded cottons. It can also be worked on 18-count canvas if you find 24-count fabric too fine (the finished box will then be slightly bigger).

You will learn all the stitches required to complete the embroidery as well as the construction techniques required to make it up into a fabric covered box with matching accessories.

Dates: Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July
Times: 10.00am – 3.30pm
Tutor: Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes

Here’s a great opportunity to spend the day with Brenda stitching a project that you have started in one of Brenda’s many classes that she has taught at the Guild. Take advantage of this class to ask Brenda any questions you may have; do you need help with stitch technique? Would you like some advice on transferring designs? Do you need to purchase some more thread/fabric to finish a project? You may just want to come along and enjoy a day of stitching. Get that unfinished project out and come along!

LL-49  Pulled Thread for Beginners

Skill Level: All levels welcome
Member: $72.00
Non-member: $98.00

Pulled thread is worked on light, open even weave linen. Firmly pulled stitches give the fabric a lacy appearance although all the thread remains intact. Many various patterns/textures can be made by counting the threads and placing the needle in such a way that holes are formed where you want them. In this class we will cover basic techniques step by step on a strip of fabric that will then become your learning sampler. Hems, edges and corners, both square and mitred, will be included. This is a technique class therefore the illustration is a sample only.

Dates: Thursdays July 12 and 19
Times: 10.00am – 2.00pm
Tutor: Lorna Law

Blackwork is a style of counted thread embroideryas popular today as it was in the 16th Century. A choice of motifs and patterns will enable students to personalize the sampler. The finished piece could be framed or used as the cover of a needlebook.
