Two Lectures in May
In May we have two guest lecturers at Embroidery House.
On May 17, Dr Guy Churchman will talk about his extensive collection of vestments and church furnishings and on May 21 visiting U.K. tutor Chris Berry will present an illustrated lecture entitled ‘Many a Slip…’
Wednesday May 17
6.30pm for 7pm – 9pm
Dr Churchman will talk about his extensive collection of vestments and church furnishings, some estimated to be more than 300 years old. Examples of the articles that will be featuring in the Holy Stitches exhibition will be on display. Over the past 20 years, Dr Churchman has turned to The Embroiderers Guild, Victoria, Ceremonial Group for assistance with the preservation of his collection. Holy Stitches is a celebration of a long-standing partnership.
Mrs Norma Bain will also talk about the conservation techniques the Ceremonial Group have used to restore and preserve the integrity of these vestments.

Sunday May 21
Visiting U.K. tutor Chris Berry will present an illustrated lecture at Embroidery House entitled ‘Many a Slip...‘ on Sunday May 21, at 5.00pm. Entry fee $10.00. Chris is teaching ‘Curious Needle-works’ a course for intermediate to advanced stitchers in May.
Embroidery slips were very popular items in historical embroidery from the Middle Ages onward.
This illustrated lecture traces their history, design sources, stitches and techniques, concentrating on C16 and C17 examples.
