 FELTED EMBELLISHMENTS 

Tutor:
  Chris West (Birregurra)

Small felted items – flower brooches, beads and buttons. Ideas for small pieces of left over felt.

PATCHWORK BASICS

Tutor: Lyn Hughes (and members from the Patchwork Guidance Group)

In this workshop students will make a basic block, learning  the basics of patchwork such as planning, use of tools, cutting, stitching, and pressing. This block can then be used as the base for a follow-up workshop in April  where students will learn the technique of needleturn appliqué.

NEEDLETURN APPLIQUE

Tutor: Lyn Hughes (and members from the Patchwork Guidance Group)

This workshop follows on from the Patchwork Basic class, but is also available to other members.  Students will learn the technique of needleturn appliqué.

STUMPWORK – DRAGONFLY AND BLACKBERRIES

This is a delightful piece of stumpwork ideal for framing or could be used on box top.

Dates:    Wednesdays March 17 & 31  (10am to 3pm)

LANDSCAPE MOSAIC CREATIVE PATCHWORK 

Tutor:  Gloria Loughman (international award-winning contemporary quilter from Bellarine Peninsula)

We are very privileged to have Gloria come to teach us – she is virtually booked out for 2010 including many overseas teaching appointments. Check out her website – www.glorialoughman.com

Students will design their own wall hanging working from a photo, sketch or picture.  For those who are less confident, a choice of three patterns are available (yuccas, canola landscape, tropical seascape). Using small squares or diamonds of fabric, students will build up a landscape design that is both original and visually exciting. Design principles including perspective and focal point will be discussed. Invisible machine appliqué, free motion stitching and other machine embroidery techniques will be included. Students will have the option of hand painting fabric for special areas. This workshop is suitable for new and experienced quilters.

JAPANESE SILK EMBROIDERY
Tutor:  Marj Kavanagh (Geelong Branch)

This class includes all levels: 1. Plum and Cherry Blossoms; 2. Chrysanthemum; 3. Bouquet; 4. Fan

VENETIAN BAG or FAB BAG or FRUITILLERY

Tutor:  Catherine Howell

Catherine comes with a great reputation for her designs and choice of colour.  She spent much of last year as Artist-in-Residence in New Zealand.  She has also tutored at the Geelong Fibre Art Forum in September. Kits for her bags or fruitillery will need to be ordered in advance and can be viewed at www.colourstreams.com.au.  The bags are a 2-day workshop and the fruitillery can be done in one day (please nominate either Friday or Saturday).

Date:  Friday / Saturday April 30/ May 1 (10am to 3pm)

CREATIVE BEADWORK 

Tutor: Lisa Walton (Creative Quilter from New South Wales)

Lisa is another heavily booked tutor with teaching appointments all over Australia and in other countries.  We are fortunate to have Lisa come to teach creative beadwork before she heads for her workshops at the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair.  Check out her website:  www.dyedheaven.com

This one day workshop will teach the basics of bead embroidery and variations including attaching cabochons. The sampler made in class will be the starting point for many wonderful future projects as well as a piece of art in itself.  Workshop notes will be provided.

HARDANGER MAT

Tutor:  Janet Clarke (Geelong Branch)

This mat will build on the skills learned in the Hardanger for Beginners class held in 2009, but is available to all levels.

CANVASWORK PINCUSHION WITH TWISTED CORD AND TASSEL

Tutor:  Marj Kavanagh (Geelong Branch)
This project is aimed at beginners but is available to students at all levels.

Dates: Wednesdays  October 6 & 20 (10am-3pm)

MYSTERY CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP

This will be a surprise project with kit supplied.  Those attending will be asked to bring a plate to share for lunch.

Available for Geelong Branch members only.

  • Classes are held at St David's Uniting Church Hall, corner Aphrasia and Talbot Sts, Newtown.

  • Payment must be made 4 weeks prior to class.

  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to commencement of class to ensure a prompt start.

  • Bring lunch and a mug for tea/coffee.

  • If preferred, lunches and coffee are available from the shop nearby.

  • Overnight billets can be arranged. Fees $25 per night (B&B) or $35 (D,B&B).
