We are a
not-for-profit organisation open to all lovers of embroidery and textiles, from beginner to expert.

We aim to:

  • Promote the love of embroidery in all its forms.
  • Teach the enjoyment and the skills of embroidery at every level.
  • Encourage embroidery learning and skills via scholarships and other resources.
  • Provide a wide variety of resources concerning embroidery.
  • Preserve knowledge of the history of embroidery and fabrics, and their preservation and conservation.
  • Maintain high standards of design and technique in embroidery.
  • Promote cooperation and exchange of ideas between those engaged in and interested in embroidery in the state of Victoria, in other parts of Australia, and throughout the world.

Founded in 1960, we now have approximately 1500 members throughout Victoria, Australia, including 10 Country Branches and two Country Groups.

Our home in Malvern (a suburb of Melbourne) provides a friendly centre for members to attend classes, enjoy talks, meetings, exhibitions and displays.

Special interest groups exist for a range of techniques such as counted thread work, canvas work, crewel work, lace making, machine embroidery, patchwork, beading and tassel making, ceremonial embroidery and more.
