“COLOURS OF THE GALAXY”

CHALLENGES:

September 12-27, 2009

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

    1. One or two exhibits per member. One or both can be for sale (subject to point 4 below) or not for sale.

    2. A third exhibit is permitted provided it is for sale (subject to point 4 below).

    3. The Guild receives a 20% commission on the selling price of all sold items.

    4. All exhibits for sale must be the exhibitor’s original design to comply with copyright laws.

    5. Items designed by a tutor and made in a class are not eligible for entry into the exhibition, but items inspired by a class and of a member’s own design are eligible.

    6. Items designed and executed by members as major pieces for Guild certificate courses are eligible.

    7. Exhibits should have been completed during the preceding 24 months, and

    8. Not have been previously exhibited in the Melbourne metropolitan area outside Embroidery House.

    9. To protect your exhibit and that of others from damage, and to facilitate accurate repacking, each exhibit is to be presented in its own named padded bag or other suitable container (no plastic or unpadded bags, pillow cases, or other flimsy containers).

    10. Each exhibit is to be accompanied by a completed official entry form.

    11. Each exhibit is to have the green copy from the entry form attached to the exhibit in an inconspicuous place.

    12. Framed exhibits and wall hangings must have a hanging device attached.

    13. Quilts must have a sewn-on sleeve for insertion of a rod, and be accompanied by a named rod of appropriate length.

    14. Each exhibit is covered by the Guild’s insurance to a limit of $1,500. Additional insurance is the responsibility of the individual member.


Class Work
An article made as part of a non-certificate class, eg, summer school, monthly class, cannot be exhibited in the annual exhibition.

Major pieces made as part of a certificate class e.g., Intermediate, Art for the Stitch, may be exhibited in the annual exhibition. See points 6, 7 and 8 above.

Quilted Work:
An article quilted by a firm or person other than the maker of the article must be acknowledged on the official exhibition entry form. This information will be entered in the catalogue and exhibition label as being commercially quilted

CHALLENGES 2009

OPEN CHALLENGE. The 2009 open challenge is “Heavenly Bodies” - the choice of “heavenly body” is entirely up to the individual member.

  1. One entry per member.
  2. An entry can be in any format, for example:
    1. a picture, to a maximum of 10cm x 10cm, including, if used, the frame;
    2. a free-standing object, to a maximum width of 10cm, maximum depth 10cm, maximum height 10cm.
  3. Made in any medium and any technique.
  4. Subject to point 5, a challenge piece may be for sale. (Note: a challenge may be for sale regardless of whether a member has one, two or three exhibits for sale in the exhibition proper.)
  5. All challenges for sale must be the exhibitor’s original design to comply with copyright laws.
  6. The Guild receives a 20% commission on the sale price.
  7. The challenge piece is to be accompanied by a completed official entry form.
  8. The challenge piece is to be presented in its own named padded bag or other suitable container with the green page from the entry form attached to the outside of the container.
The challenge piece is to have a tag attached stating the member’s name.

INAUGURAL JUNIOR CHALLENGE. We are delighted to announce that 2009 will see the introduction of a separate challenge for our junior members, 8-18 years. In keeping with the exhibition theme, the Junior Challenge is a “Star”. As with the Open Challenge, the winning entry for each Junior Challenge age section will be chosen by popular vote. The choice of "star" is entirely up to the individual member.

JUNIOR CHALLENGE - STAR
  1. One entry per student member.
  2. Age range:  8-12 years section and 13-18 years section.
  3. The entry can be in any format, for example:
  4. a picture, to a maximum of 10cm x 10cm, including, if used, the frame;
  5. a free-standing object, to a maximum width of 10cm, maximum depth of 10cm, maximum height of 10cm.
  6. Made in any medium and any technique.
  7. Subject to point 8, a challenge piece may be for sale. (Note: a challenge may be for sale regardless of whether a student member has one, two or three exhibits for sale in the exhibition proper.)
  8. All Star Challenges for sale must be the exhibitor’s original design to comply with copyright laws.
  9. The Guild receives a 20% commission on the sale price.
  10. The Challenge Star is to be accompanied by a completed official entry form which will include the student member’s age.
  11. The Challenge Star is to be presented in its own named padded bag or other suitable container with the green page from the entry form attached to the outside of the container.
  12. The Challenge Star is to have a small tag attached at an inconspicuous place, stating the student member’s name and age.

A student member may also enter the Open Challenge.
